All the Treks in and around Dharamshala

Although the treks in and around Dharamshala are available all around the year, in winter, the government may temporarily ban all trekking activities above 3000m during excessive snowfall.

Here’s the list of treks available with their starting point and elevation. Remember to always ask locals at the base point of any trek to know about the trek. Always ask them how much it is going to take to complete the trek and also if Tents are available at the top to rent so that you can be prepared beforehand.

Triund Trek:

Triund Trek is undoubtedly one of the most popular treks in Himachal Pradesh. It is generally open all around the year.

Starting Point: Bhagsunag Waterfall (Macleodganj), Dharamkot.

Elevation: 2850m or 9350ft.

Approx time: 3 – 5 hours.

Although it is possible to do it in a day and return to Macleodganj but to do that trek should be started as soon as possible.

Adani Himani Chamunda:

Adani Himani Chamunda is a religious trek where devotees from all over Kangra arrive. Usually, the trek is open from 15 March to 15 November and it is recommended to do it during this period only since the temple at the top remains closed from 15 November to 15 March and there will be no place stay available in that time.

Starting Point: Jiya (14 km from Palampur, 20 km from Dharamshala).

Elevation: 2800m or 9200ft.

Approx time: 5 – 8 hours.

Adani Himani Chamunda is a relatively difficult trek and hence you should always plan to stay a night at the top if you are not a frequent trekker.

Kareri Lake Trek is the most beautiful and scenic trek available in Dharamshala. The trek is open during the whole year but due to excessive snowfall in January and February, it should be done with extreme care during these months.

Starting Point: Kareri Village (30 km from Dharamshala).

Elevation: Above 3000m or 10,000 ft.

Approx time: 4.5 – 7.5 hours.

Again it is a difficult trek hence a night stay is required and beside, and you will be awarded with a beautiful sunrise in the early morning.
